Summit ElderCare recognizes "Older Americans Month"
Worcester, Mass. May 1, 2007
The U.S. Administration on Aging has designated the month of May as “Older Americans Month.” Summit ElderCare, a Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly, is recognizing this month by letting baby boomers know that there are new and unique services available to provide professional, caregiving services to elders in the community.
“Some family members supplement their loved one’s care by using professional caregivers,” says Karen Longo, Executive Director of Summit ElderCare. “Others turn to outside help for most care when logistics, geography, work schedules or escalating needs signal that it’s time for a change. Our organization gives peace-of-mind to baby boomers and their parents by providing the highest-quality of care, while maintaining the independence and dignity of the elders we serve. It’s a welcome alternative to a nursing home placement.”
For 44 years, the United States has honored older Americans during May. The theme for Older Americans Month 2007 is “Older Americans: Making Choices for a Healthier Future.” The U.S. Administration on Aging recommends individuals explore the following questions: What choices exist in our community to support elders who need assistance? What information is available to elders to support them making choices that will improve their health and quality of life? What activities are available to help them reduce their risk of disease, disability and injury?
“Here at Summit ElderCare, we’re proud to be professional caregivers in our community,” adds Longo. “Our Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly is a national model of care and meets the caregiving needs of hundreds of families throughout Worcester County, Marlborough and Hudson.”
Summit ElderCare is sponsored by Fallon Community Health Plan, and is one of six PACE programs in Massachusetts and more than 40 programs nationwide. Its locations include 277 E. Mountain St. in Worcester; 88 Masonic Home Road in Charlton; and opening in 2007, 55 Cinema Boulevard in Leominster.
